Driver's Manuals and Supplements

Presumably every new 356 Porsche came equipped with a Driver’s Manual which contained technical information pertaining to the model and including instructions for operation and performing basic maintenance. Topics include general descriptions of major mechanical components: engine, transmission, suspension steering and brakes, as well as body, heating/ventilation and electrical system. Also listed are technical specifications pertaining to mechanical components, dimensions, weights and performance. The remaining pages are devoted to tune-up and other mechanical adjustments which are within the scope of the average owner (from the period).

Operating information consists of descriptions of instruments and other controls located in the interior, including those on the dashboard. Also included is starting procedure, break-in information and convertible top operation. General maintenance information includes oil change, fuel system and lubrication recommendations. Accompanying this are basic body and interior care. The bulk of the remaining pages are devoted to tune-up and other mechanical adjustments which are within the scope of the average owner (from the period).

In this section of 356 Literature Zentrale we have presented all models from the Gmünd cars first constructed in Austria from 1949 all the way through the final 356C models, as well as some of the race cars of the era. During the 356 era separate documents regarding warranties and operation of added accessories often were included at delivery, as well as car care booklets. These are on a separate page for Body Care Booklets.

We have provided representative scans of all manuals and other documents that were obtained at delivery produced and have archived additional ones for those manuals with multiple printings. (These can be provided on a request basis.) In several case we've scanned reproductions if the original isn't available, indicated by an (R).

Considerable post-scanning work has been done to ensure readability including Photoshop and rotation of diagrams for reading on the screen. The underlined links below are active while the others are in process or we are seeking documents. If you have access to good quality scans or original documents, please take a look at our Literature wanted List and contact contact Jim.
