After a Gap Year Because of You-Know-What, the Second Annual Porsche Boardwalk Reunion Was a Splendid Affair.

When I started my 2.5-hour drive south to Ocean City, New Jersey, on October 16, 2021, the forecast called for rain and wind by early afternoon—not ideal for an outdoor, Jersey Shore event. It turned out to be a sunscreen day, with about 300 Porsches of all models spread out along one of New Jersey's most iconic boardwalks.

The seed was sown in 2018 with the Porsche 356 Registry Holiday (covered in the Registry magazine starting on page 44 of the January / February 2018 issue), followed by the first Porsche Boardwalk Reunion in 2019. Once again Ellen Beck and Bob Gutjahr, together with a merry band of volunteers, put together a fantastic show, topped off with a dinner/dance at the Flanders Hotel.

Terry and Jane Thomann of Fredericksburg, Virginia, brought their “fun car,” a Ruby Red 1960 B with 48,000 miles.

Nik and Jane Nikolic's “Zippy” is a 1963 356 Super, a numbers-matching survivor with 85,000 miles. When they lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Nik drove to work one day and saw this Porsche parked in the adjacent business’s parking lot. He went into the office and told the owner if he’d ever want to sell, he’d be interested. Three weeks later the owner was ready and Nik bought it on the spot.

Robin and Leonard Whitlook of Vero Beach, Florida brought their 1965 Bali Blue SC with 134,000 miles.

The interior of Stephen Matlaga's 1962 was assembled with parts from different cars of different colors and stained black to match.

This all-original 1957 Aquamarine Blue Speedster belongs to Linda and Gino Lucci of Staten Island, New York.

Rogerio Santos owns this beautiful 1952 split-window with 50,000 miles. Purportedly, it was originally sold to Petermax Müller to be used for racing.

Robert Jamison brought his 1962 Oslo Blue B with 74,000 miles, “popping the clutch and pushing it three or four times” on the way from Mount Holly, New Jersey, because the charging system is shot. Robert bought the car in 1980. It was his daily beater for about six years and then was put away for about 30 years until it was restored in 2019.

You may recognize Adam Wright's 1960 Silver B from the cover of the March/April issue, though it looks a little better now.

Karen and Tommy Rendano of Garden City, New York, own this Signal Red 356 that they bought from the original owner in 1979.
