Scammer Alert!

The 356 Registry is constantly under attack by criminals like most sites that have online marketplaces. Please read this short message with important tips.

Recently, a scammer (who had joined the club and harvested member emails from classifieds ads) sent out a poorly worded email claiming we are upgrading the site and need you to send us your password. This is a ploy to get access to your account to trick other members out of money. Do not share your user name and password with anyone that contacts you.

The most common scam we see is directed toward those with wanted ads. The scammer will claim to have what you need and use rarity, a good price, and other reasons to create a sense of urgency. We’ve caught quite a few scammers who lift the photos and descriptions from The Samba, Bring a Trailer, and other sites.

For sale ads from new members are reviewed by the classifieds team. They are getting good at blocking scammers that take this approach. High value/rare items such as tool kits are what they often offer.  The scammers join the club with one email address then use a different email address when they try to rip people off. Just because they are a member does not mean they are honest. Unless you know the buyer, be very careful.
