[WTB] Looking for my dad's 1965 356SC
- Posted in 356 Cars
Here's the history I could piece together between his memory and the few remaining photos and documentation we have:
The car was originally purchased in 1977 from an individual we had previously bought a 1974 Audi 100LS from in Oakland, CA. As he recalls he paid around $4,000 for the car and it had a black interior, heater, and an AM radio. Parts of the seat brackets were cracked and he had trouble finding replacements at the time.
The license plate was California NHZ 614 and the VIN was 221965. According to the database, the original engine case should be 813563-813893 or 821702-821855.
On 4/26/79 he took it to Riedel Foreign Car Service in Concord, CA for an engine rebuild from 1600cc to 1750cc. Mileage was 25,322.
On 5/29/79 he took it to Metal Craft Body & Paint in San Leandro, CA for bodywork and paint (mileage 26,058).
In 11/79 it went back to Riedel for a tune up. Mileage 26,887.
On 4/19/80 he brought it to Alex's Porsche House & Alfa Romeo in Campbell, CA to consign the car for $10,500. Mileage 28,981.
On 7/19/80 it sold to Alex's for $10,200 and this is where the paper trail ends. He remembers it was hard to sell the car, so it's unclear if it actually went to Alex's or if they flipped it to a customer at that time or shortly thereafter.
Update 3/29/18: The car was advertised for sale in 356 Registry magazine by Mike Keady in Watsonville, CA in December 1987.
Update 2/25/19: The car could have moved with Robin Keady/Fox to Prescott, AZ in the 90s.
3/31/20 update: Last registered in Arizona with a date of February 27, 2003. The NMVTIS records shows it as "current" so it's possible that the car is still registered there or it has been flipped on an open title. Also, the VIN (not necessarily the car) shows up as having been possibly branded junk or salvage by LKQ Walt & Verns in Buckley, Washington in December 2011.
The attached pictures were taken in May 1980 right before the car was sold. I'm trying to track this car down, and any leads would be greatly appreciated!
