I purchased this Speedster in 2002 from long time 356 Registry member Ernie Groves. The car has matching numbers and it had 32004 original miles on the odometer when I bought it.
The car was originally painted Reutter number 704 Ivory with a red vinyl interior. Ernie repainted the car in 1992 with a 1955 Mercedes Benz Elfenbein DB608, a slightly deeper and richer Ivory. The interior upholstery was changed also at that time to a tan vinyl with tan German square weave carpeting. Ernie garaged the car when it returned from the restoration shop and it was never on the road until I bought it ten years later.
Subsequently, I changed the tan vinyl upholstery to Cashmere leather by Autos International and added a Glaspar hardtop from Russ Rodriguez at Fibersteel.
The car runs flawlessly and it has consistently won it's share of regional and 356 Registry Concours events.
In addition, it's a perfect roommate for my 1957 Sunroof Coupe!
