1957 A Carreras/GT
Belongs to Jerry Charlup
Chassis: 83780
When the car was purchased in SoCal in 1983, neither the buyer (me) nor the seller knew what a Carrera Speedster was. After the purchase, I was able to get the factory kardex and then determined that it was a carrera but without the 4-cam motor. In 1990 I purchased 4-cam motor #90760, a correct 547/1. That motor was eventually completed by Gerry McCarthy of KAM Motorsports in CT. In 2005, I located the original motor block (#90896) at Spyder Sports and it was purchased as an engine "kit" in 2007. Turns out the motor is a GT motor. The engine will be finished in time for the 2011 Porsche Race Car Classic as the car has been invited for display. Jeff Adams at Speedsport Tuning in CT is completing the engine. The photo was taken in Big Sur during the 2004 Speedster event and has been used in many publications including the 356 Registry Magazine.
