I noticed something today that has me a bit puzzled. I am hoping someone can help me out. In the "About Us" section of the website, it states that we have some "8000" members. However, there are only 7,232 members listed under the "Membership" section (when you select the "356 Registry Membership List").

However, at the bottom of the forum's "Board index" page, it says that there are 8,508 members. BUT... it also says (this morning anyway) that the latest member is a fellow named Peter Lane (welcome, Peter!).

Problem is: Peter is listed in the websites "356 registry Membership List" (that is, he is part of that 7, 232 total).

I am sure there is a logical explanation for the 1,268 member difference between the highest and lowest posted total.

Because the subject of "gaining new members" has been discussed quite a bit lately, I think it would be helpful if we all understood where we stand.

Regards,

Bill

No one has replied to the posting I made on May 1st. Thought I would post an update, one month later. Perhaps someone with some knowledge on the subject will respond this time.

On May 1st, the total number of registry members listed on the website's "Member List" page was 7,232. Today (June 1st) the total number of members listed is 7,126. Note: you can access this list on the website by selecting the "Membership" tab at the top right of the website and then selecting "356 Registry Member List."

One of the stated purposes of the Trustee's decision to close the forum to non-members was to increase the number of paid club members. During the last month, it looks like we have LOST 126 members.

Curiously, at the bottom of the first page of the 356Talk Forum, the total "members" listed is 8,646. It appears that number is not the number of Porsche 356 Registry members, as it apparently includes "BOTS" (cyber space search engines, etc often seen "lurking" in the list of "members" online at the moment).

The "About the Registry" page still says that the Porsche 356 Registry has "some 8,000 members."

So, these questions remain:

1. Do we have "some 8,000" members or is the real number now 7,126?

2. If the policy to close the forum to non-members was intended to increase membership, is it having the opposite effect? Are we now a group of 7,126 versus 7,232 a month ago?

Regards,

Bill

I too am curious. Perhaps our Membership Chairperson, Mary Skamser can answer the current membership question and any gains/losses since the forum was closed to members.

Bill,
You have a fair question here. I am working with Mary to gather some data which I will post. I have found out that the numbers found in some "sources" do have accuracy issues because they may contain "Bots" and/or the former "Guests". The "about us" thing is a marketing tool  and not meant to be gospel. We will get to the bottom of things.

Dear Fellow Members,
Some members have recently expressed an interest in our Club's membership number. Given the constant renewals occurring on a daily basis, our membership number is quite dynamic. However, as of June 7th, we had 7148 active members. Since our policy change in April requiring Club membership for Talk Forum posting privileges, we have experienced 110 new members, many of those had been previously been posting as site guests.
In fairness, I am also reporting that we have had 4 members non-renew during this same time-frame.
If any member requires more information, please contact the Trustee or Club Officer of your choice."
George Dunn, President
