I FINALLY after a lot of trials and tribulations got my 57 up and running as it was intended! I've had quite a few issues with some shops in my area, and after 3 YEARS, I finally got it dialed in and its better than ever. All's well that ends well! Thanks to all on the registry who helped me out.

So, I took the car out for a nice long drive today. God I missed it. I forgot how much I loved driving it. I've gotten bitten again. Its going to be a fun summer!

I drove mine briskly for 35 miles along the James River west of Richmond. Quite briskly!

I visited mine at the restoration shop and fondled it.

Put on some of the engine tin, repainted the fan shroud and got under the car and got greasy and covered with rust. And dreamed of the day when it will be back on the road.

Beautiful pictures.

The bad news....it sits in my garage while I am in Germany.
The good news.....in the next few days I will spend time in the Porsche Museum.

Drove it to work today and as I broke free of the nutballs, I slipped it into 5th gear and realized I was driving my 912. No wonder I was having so much fun!

Finished bending the SS tubing for meeting the exhaust flanges. Should complete the layout and fabrication of the primaries and their collectors this weekend. Patience, it takes plenty of patience.

I looked at mine under the ratty car cover and decided to drive the Fiat 500 to work instead...running late and needed to fuel up the 356...

Sandblasted and painted front brake backing plates.
Removed tie rod ends from the rods and did them too.

Yesterday (day of your post) I drove my 1960 to run a few errands. Realized I was tired of looking at the bare sunroof slider so I pulled the sunroof panel to attack the headliner insert again. I've tried to get the headliner panel to slide correctly several times over the past 4 years. It always fit tight and would cause the sunroof to stop which then causes the rear to lift prematurely which could really screw up the paint if I didn't release the switch. I always thought that headliner frame I had made was slightly too wide(original didn't come with car). I got out my good calipers and took some measurements and realized that it was actually too thick. I took some metal off, re-glued the headliner insert and IT WORKS PERFECTLY. That hasn't worked in 3-4 decades(sunroof was glued shut when I bought the car) SO YESTERDAY WAS A VERY GOOD 356 DAY!

Yes it was. Here's to another 3 or 4 decades of driving it the operating sunroof. :D

My day was not so dramatic but I did cruise both the coupe and the cab. Top down weather, for sure, but that coupe is a blast to drive. While the cab is pretty tight, there is nothing like spirited a drive in a well sorted 356 coupe!

Regards,

Drove it as usual... did some errands, picked up dry cleaning, groceries, etc. It's regular transportation.
