I am working on putting my speedster together. The door garnishes. Are they just painted or are they covered with the same vinyl that is used in the interior. If they are covered with the vinyl is there a thin piece of foam that goes under the vinyl or does the vinyl go on with out the foam

Vinyl, no foam, color same as door panel (see Dr. Brett's book, page 126).

Mike:
Larry nailed it. Also, dash is same way. These cars were very basic. Made me say on occasion, "What were they thinking?"

Good luck with yours!

Mike, et al:

As a precaution, be sure the upper lip of the side curtain sockets have been chrome plated and then brazed back on the garnish rail before the paint and apply the vinyl.

Here are some photos which might help the process.

Tom,
Having a Speedster myself, I understand claustrophobia with the top up and side curtains in place , but opaque side curtains, now that is too much ! I bet changing lanes is an experience requiring a lot of luck.
:P :)

Ha Ha Larry, so right,..I drove a side curtain Midget for years in college and it had badly age fogged plexi. I remember many an "ease it on over and listen for the horn sounding" lane change. That and the "two pump brakes" it's a wonder I survived. But that was a while ago...less traffic on the highways.

Larry,

If you own, and better yet drive, a Speedster you are expected to be Superman with X-Ray vision, thus no need for clear side curtains!! Besides, this was a factory option for the secretive and anonymous dirver who did not want anyone to know who they were, predating blacked out windows.
