Does anyone sell an acurate reproduction of the grounding strap used on a 57A. Mine is in bad shape. The ones sold from Std and NLA as replacement will not work for me. Let me know if you can help. Thx

Why won't the NLA/Stoddard strap work for you?

Please tell and show what you think an original strap should look like.
Are we talking about the strap trans-to-body or battery to body?

He's referring to the steering shaft ground strap at the coupler. The replacements are usually a thin wire braid, rope shaped. The originals, I believe, were a wide flat braid.

My original ground strap measures total length 115mm, 14 mm width with 95mm hole centres and 8 mm dia holes and the copper web is 2mm thick. And of course each end has been soldered to hold it together. Hope this helps you, Brad.

Yes, I am referring to the steering shaft grounding strap. Mine is shorter than andrew's, grounding strap that is ;) Here are pics of my grounding strap. You can see the replacements sold are not close. Need to get my steering back together. I have found sources that sell copper strap so I guess I could by a foot of the stuff, tin it, punch some holes and make my own, but it sure would be easier to buy it from someone who has made a few hundred for resale. Any help would be appreciated.

I have to say that a "few hundred for resale" would probably leave 94 straps on the shelf for the producers children to take to the dump when he dies. That's why many of these parts aren't reproduced, there is no market for them, and if there was the cost would send guys like you back to the garage to make their own. No offense intended. I'm always amazed when vendors like Brad come up with things like electric sunroof cables and wonder if the 3 people that needed them called him. I'm certainly happy that folks make the effort but have to wonder how many of these strange parts ever get sold. KTF

Darn, I just produced three hundred last night. I guess I will go ahead and throw 299 in the trash.

May I add that Brad Ripley has been the best resource for hard to find parts I have had the pleasure of doing business with, and a dear friend. He is not doing this for the purpose of getting rich, just loves these cars like all of us.

He has been helping with my restorations since the early 80s. Thanks Brad. ........Jim.

Clearly, everyone is here because they love these old cars. If not for the great help of our suppliers, we would all be driving Honda's. KTF
