...I found it...the photo showing the elderly couple standing in front of the white 356 coupe first appearred in the Sept., 1964 issue of Christophorous. The owner of the SC was Harry Gregory, who bought this car at the age of 80 and put more than 6,000 miles on it during the first two months of ownership.
It was bought in Billings, Montana. He was a former VW owner who wanted something more sporty and yes, that was his sister standing next to him.
The caption for the photo was 'New Romance at 80'.
Dear Geoff, now that is the kind of history and story behind a simple picture that makes this all worth while, that is just fantastic, and to think they are in Billings Montana, just a couple hundred miles from North Dakota is cool as hell. Never too old to buy a 356! I have been so amazed at the other thread asking "At what age did you buy your 356?" I never would have dreamed that a majority of everyone who responded is UNDER the ripe old age of 30 years old. Thanks for taking the time to share the details of that photograph with the rest of us, this is one of the funnest threads in sometime.
Thanks,
Shane
