Guys,

If you need a new fan belt and your normal source of 356 parts has them back ordered, go to your friendly, neighborhood Autozone store and ask for part # 15325. It costs about 8 dollars, fits properly and works fine.

While not cheap I really like Brad's repo's of the early style fan belts...

Note: This belt is not exactly like the original belts.

Bruce, :D I appreciate your suggestion and for my driver cab I would certainly consider it. For the 57 I will go with Brad's repo. Thanks or the tip. J.

Bruce Thanks for sharing the information. Always nice to have another source for emergency parts when on a road trip and can't wait for the parts from are normal venders. I currently have 2 of NLA belts one on the car and one in the road trip kit, but there is always a chance that I will need one in a emergency on the road to get home. I don't like being with out one even when just driving a few mile to town so thanks again. George

I have a notched belt in my Roadster and it works just fine. Much better than the bootlaces shown on this forum some time back. 8)

I have noticed that with the engine running that not even the experts can tell that I have a notched belt :D
I also never have any intention of entering a concours event where anyone would care what kind of belt I am wearing or whether I have period tires or just round black ones!!

Here in SoCal, we have lots of Autozones, so maybe, we can just pop over to get one if in a pinch. Thanks Bruce.

Concourse events are a good place to lose interest in one's car.

Thanx for the tip, Bruce.

hi bruce-i can certainly relate to the sentiments you expressed about one opening one's mouth on some of the forums-seems i have had my share of roto-rooterings here over the dumbest things! one thing i picked up on was that apparently you didn't have a spare fan belt. i usually carry 2 or 3 spares for the people who 'leave home without one'. i rotate my belts and at the first hint of a crack-change the belt. i had a belt come apart on me once and it slapped the distributor cap-cracking it. i had a double problem at the side of the road. happy ending to story-i carry spare caps, coils, regulators, condensors and points etc.!

in the central valley of california-you might as well be living in a desert-hot all the time. sometimes over a 110 degrees for 2 weeks straight-it barely cools down at night-like maybe to a refreshing 90 degrees. tires take a beating too. beautiful full tread-but after a year or slightly more and the sides are all cracked-its like driving around on a skillet. in moderate climate like yours-things last way longer. in the valley-all the rubber on the car is shot in a couple years-including the fan belt. i have recently escaped that for the foothills of northern california.

Thanks Bruce -
Good to learn you've found an inexpensive and readily available backup source.
Will get one next time at Autozone, as a reserve and for use on my engine stand.
- Wil
