A friend of mine has what I thought was an older VW motor, not that I am that familiar with them, but this motor seems a bit different. It is a two piece with generator stand cast into the right piece, the motor number at the generator base is E 16174 and there are case matching numbers (2x163) beside the perimeter bolt behind the flywheel, as per 356's. Is this perhaps an early Porsche case or some sort of VW variant?

I don't recognize that number as a Porsche number.
