I am sick of waiting for panel shops for 3+ years so decided to tackle this one myself. So far, attended a welding course and a panel beating course as well as lots of practice on scrap panels
Not game enough to paint it so most likely I will do the prep work myself but leave painting to the pros. But that's a long way off anyway
I have very little rust that I can see but lots of bog over old damage. All the previous work can only be described as having been done by a blind one legged turkey who mastered bog work. The front & bad had some damage that was covered with 6 & 7mm of bog in some areas

Will post progress pictures as I move one with the resto but y first question is about the spare wheel well where it meets the battery floor, should it have a lip or not?
Looks like this area was rusted so the PO replaced the battery floor and patched the other area with overlapping metal. They didn't even bother to tidy up the jaggered old rusted edge. Anyway, the suspect area has been removed and I will patch it properly with no overlapping rubbish
The lip looks like factory however all the pictures I looked at for other cars do not have a lip. I pointed to it with the yellow arrows below

Thank you

Hi Rafik,
Nice to see you post. I have been wondering how 80351 is looking. I suppose your comment about the shop, 3 years, and frustration must be in regards to that project?

Glad to see you have become like the "little red hen" and are undertaking the '60 cab. I have great admiration for the do-it-your-selfers of the world. A good (or even sort of OK) car done by oneself is much more interesting to me than a perfect car done by a checkbook. And some of the work done by these guys who post their projects on here is really amazing!

That small lip you have pointed to is present on my T5 roadster, and it is original. That part of my front compartment has not been replaced. I will crawl under there after work today and get a picture for you.

Take care,
David Gensler

Hi David
Yes, it was in reference to 80351. But I moved the Speedster to a different panel shop in July last year. They made a slow start but now picking up nicely. Still promising to have it painted by Aug so we are on the home run now. Will post some pictures for it as it is now
Thanks for the for the response on the lip
Below are some pictures

That is the best way to learn, take a welding class, do some practice on scrap and start beating and welding. I took my class at a Brooklyn Tech School, me and a bunch of ex-cons. One asked me who my PO was? I thought "previous owner" but then it dawned on me "parole officer"

Remember if you screw it up, you can always cut it back out, and even the worst welded screw up is better then rust.

If you have not done so, join metalmeet.com. A bunch of very helpful and patient pros from all over the world can help with metal forming and repair. And, it's free!

Phil, It's easier to hack the CIA than register with Metal Meet. Finally got in though.

Yep, taken a welding course about 2 months ago. Now taking a spray painting course but not planning to apply the final coat. Just the base coat. Eventually when I get to it. Will post some pictures to the work after it was finished

Got most of the work on the battery box front done on the weekend. Still needs to grind off the welds and general clean up. I also need to grind off the old copper brazing that is all over the place
