Looks like there will be a Carrera Speedster on Chasing Classic Cars tonight...anyone now about the car?

No idea about the Speedster but I did see Wayne racing the ex-Bill Rutan VW Special that is powered by a 4 cam Carrera engine at the Hershey Hillclimb June 8 & 9. This car was a regular participant in Pennsylvania Hillclimb Association events for many years up until a few years ago. The restoration is impecable, but the car no longer has the same patina as when Bill Rutan owned and drove it.

Time to pic nits since that is what we often do to amuse ourselves.

If the show is correct...

Gmund is in Switzerland.
Ferry designed the 4-cam engine in Gmund.

Also- They used starting fluid to start the 4-cam VW which is about the worst possible way to start an engine. :(

...and yet another nit

Wayne refers to the Speedster as a GS/GT

I really do enjoy the show however

I love the show as well..the override bars on a GS-GT speedster were interesting. I think it was more of a GS then a GT...plus it had all of side trim etc...
It was cool to see how excited Roger was when he was un-boxing the Carrera Engine!

NITS: The 1948 Porsche was done in Gmund, Ostereich (Austria). There is also a Schwabisch Gmund in southern Germany but it was in Austria not die Schweitz.

The nit-pic comments are good and appear correct, but - I'm intrigued, did Wayne truly come up with holy grail, find and buy "a Carrera Speedster with it's 4-cam intact that nobody knew about" ? Is the car known to the 4-cam world ? is the serial number known ?, listed on the "My Carrera Speedster website" ?, just curious but with all the interest in 4-cams it seems like kind of a big deal - where it came from - where it went ...

i often enjoy the show and from what i hear from folks who know him, wayne is a great guy (who now has bosch and haggerty product placement!) - i also caught Roger's mistakes, but i was also laughing when he started discussing having sex with 4-cam! from what i understood, the speedster did not have the 4-cam, and that was found later - it looked like it had a roller bearing crank - the strange thing about the episode was when i looked at the "info" button on the cable, the show's description stated that wayne was visiting EASY in emeryville, ca - did i miss something?
keep watchin'!

Yeah, we missed what most of us wanted to see...that day at Jim's place a lot of us attended.
