Getting ready to install flywheel on the engine and was wanting to know if there is any problem with using the Viton style flywheel seal. I read here that some of the seals need to be trimed as they have 2 lips and the one lip wears against the flywheel and causes failure. So want to get help on what seal is used by the registry engine builders. This is my first engine build so all information is appreciated. Have a great week. George

If it has the outer dust seal then trim it off. That lip will contact the part of the flywheel that flares out to transition to the back(front?) of the flywheel.

Don't forget to check your crank end play and use a new soft shim between the Crank and flywheel before putting in the new seal. A little assembly lube on the seal race helps for first start up. I have a tool I made that screws into the gland nut hole and allows one to press the new seal in correctly and true.

On my 1961 motor there was a new seal but no end play shim so lots of crank end play.
